13) The Yard and Office

Do not be fooled by the interplay of worked and unworked areas! I simply did not have time to attack it all and I certainly have no time for aesthetic games of that sort. To take that bait is only to sow the bad seeds of artistic confinement but having said that the drawing will be left how it is and on to another. I took up a position on the bow of the Olympic from where one can have a near birdseye view of the yard and this time I took ink in addition to lead for the fine line and easy black. It was taken in one rush in which I tried to catch all I could; we have the quayside pontoon, boats in the water, boats on the land, the office, houses and trees in the background...but this is not the only news of the day and I can hardly contain my exitment any longer. Today I took us fearlessly into the portrait business! "OIL PORTRAITS FROM YOUR REPRODUCTIONS - £70 PER SIZE 15 CANVAS." This advertisment is now on display in the Post Office, the News Agents, the COOP,

Barclays1 and the hardware store all at a rate of £1 per month. Now, if someone wants a portrait anywhere in the Torpoint/Anthony/Millbrook area then they are sure to come across us and I have no doubt that the idea is original and affordable enough to appeal. Imagine you have an old reproduction of a loved one who has passed on and perhaps it is small, torn and faded. You may think about having it retouched digitally but through the Torpoint Art Service you can have a likeness in oil on canvas size 15 for, in all likelyhood, a similar charge as for the digital service. Now that is a real bargain! I'm expecting the orders to come flooding in so lets be sure to have some colour. With this our recent dip in funds will surely be straightened out.

I'll keep on with the drawings until the orders come in but don't fret, I have not taken my eye off the political ball as regards our mission of breakage. I have a number of ideas to tackle some of the politics head on in fact - a still life with art theory books layed out a la french naturalist novals and also something about the occupy movement that will require me to bend the rules little but we can discuss that at a later date. I need to put the finishing touches to the portrait of Ana and Michael.

Yours in high tone,

John

1 There is no advertisment in Barclays. It has either been removed or John intends to put it there soon or perhaps it is an "exageration".  The advert does appear in the other locations stated.
