About

The Open Council is an Institution for Experimental Policy. Through our activities we provide social comment on life, culture and the powers that be, in Newcastle and beyond. We re-imagine Newcastle in order to tell new stories and to play with ideas of our future while also remembering how things have changed.

The Open Council imagines a community of everyday people who are contemplating the rhythms of life in the city and observing how we create and recreate the spectacle of global capitalism right here in Newcastle. From this position the Open Council provides a specific interpretative framework within which a variety of art and cultural practices may be contextualized.

Participation in the instituting of the Open Council is welcomed and is possible by submitting work for one of the *call for work* projects or by creating an Open Council policy.
