Your letters to the Open Council
Thomas Anthony Stevenson
Dear Open Council,
Once again you have provided yet another facet to your wonderful web site.I refer of course to the latest addition of the Swedish Artist,... and being an absolute novice as regards "ART", I look forward to receiving some helpful hints re ..what really is the meaning of Art?, what to actually look for when observing "art", eg...is it the design,.. the "message".. or is it really in the eye of the beholder.
Yours faithfully
Thomas Anthony Stevenson..(Tony!!)

Dear Open Council,
I am writing to the Open Council to share an experience I had at the Brown Mountain School of Performing Arts event in London a few weeks ago. It was a fantastic evening with some livley, thought provoking and good humoured performances and I would heartily reccomend it all members who get the chance.
Has the Open Council come across the Brown Mountain School of Performing Arts? If not can I suggest that a link should be made to this institution so that other Open Council members are made aware.

Yours,

Craig Kinsella

In the advert for the call for submissions of views of the Newcastle Civic Centre, it is stated that the meaning of the seahorses crowning the building is unclear.
It is almost certain they are taken from the supporters of the city's achievement of arms; the principal charges from the arms (three castles, triple-towered) are included at the top of the tower spire.

Dear Open Council,
I am a great supporter of the "open council" and admire the good work it does in promoting community involvement...especially for the people of Newcastle Upon Tyne. However I am some what perturbed at the news of the addition to your staff of, and I quote..." a lesbian geography expert"...well I never!!!..What can she contribute to the Open Council.
One last comment if I may...I do not think it was necessary to highlight the gender of the expert...I assume she is a very sophisticated young woman, however I must ask the question ,..would the Open Council provide the gender as for example a "homosexual advisor for mortgage applications??
Yours,
Clarencene Mackintosh.

Sir,
Re policies pending, I note with some satisfaction that we have a foot in
the moon venture ,and with the furtherance and prestige of the Open Council in mind, I do urge you at head office to put this project on top priority, given today’s news that India is in orbit already! Should we not 'pull our finger out' as it were, and get the Open council off the ground ASAP? To the moon i say and don't spare the horses!
Yours in anticipation
John Frostrup [Colonel retired]

Dear Open Council,
Please find attached on behalf of the UFO Police, the latest poster that appeals for information from members of the public. Your citizens may be able to offer further details or corrobarate the recent events that have come to light. These sensitive and unusual cases are handled with the strictest confidentiality and members are assured that any information provided is treated with high priority and concern.
We would appreciate it if the Open Council could make this new public appeal visible to members of the public in any accessible format. The public provide an excellent resource in affirming and successfully monitoring the unsettling nature and frequency of these incidents.
Yours Sincerely,

Dear Open Council

I would like to bring to your attention the remarkable achievement of
the Swiss pilot Yves Rossy, on his recent ultimate cross channel 'Derive'.
This is a great example of the, 'Spirit of Derive' and should be recognised by the
Open council as such. I would be interested to know what other councillor's think.

Yours etc,
M. Roberts

Dear Open Council

Derive' or drifting as described in your archive, 'derive' -----''follow your own drift',
is, possibly innovative, for the members of the open council as an alternative way of moving.
However to describe this activity as unique, and developed from an idea of a Frenchman,
is to totally and completely dismiss and overlook the ancient rite of the Australian aborigines,
who in their well documented 'walkabouts',surely were the first to enjoy this activity.

Your Sincerely,
a member of the open council (now on a most enjoyable extended 'walkabout' or 'derive' in the West Country.)

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing as a member of the open council, oops [are we not all members]
to express my concern that in these times of rising prices, cut backs, and economic
downturn, we should not rush in to opening branches of the OPEN COUNCIL, willy nilly.
My own thoughts are that we should all participate in this decision, democratically,
by viewing the prospective village and venue, on say a weekend trip to exchange ideas,
meet up with would be honorary members, with eventually a view to 'twinning'.
I write this with some urgency in the hope that we can fit ' a nice little jolly' in to our
busy schedules before Christmas.
Yours truly

Congratulations...I refer to your recent efforts in expanding your influence to include the whole of England...In particular I was very impressed when I visited Polperro where much to my surprise I met one of your represenatives publicly handing out your marvellous booklets... in this case the 'Upkeep of Ancient Fishing Villages'....and considering that Polperro is a small fishing village on the south coast of Cornwall the tentacles of the Open Council stretch far indeed.
I have attached a photograph of Polperro in the hope that it may help in your efforts to 'spread the word' of your marvellous 'Open Council'.
Henry Stuart Macalpine.
